Oil Paintings in Have you ever wanted to learn how to create hand-painted works of art quickly? If so, you may have played with the Photoshop filters. With a few simple sliders, users can adjust the amount of stylization, brush-size, brush-scale and other parameters. The Oilpaint effect that ships with the free Pixel Bender plugin for Photoshop CS5 allows users to transform their photographs into images with the visual appearance of oil paintings. This video takes a detailed look at the options in the filter. Photoshop CS6 comes with a new filter based on the Pixel Bender plugin, which allows for anything from soft to dramatic oil painting like effects.

While searching around for tutorials on how to achieve the same effect manually, I came across this cool plug-in by Adobe Labs: Pixel Bender! This is what the new CS6 Oil Painting filter is based off of (I guess it was popular plug-in effect). I figured it would be a great additional tool for creating Civ graphics - especially those wonder scenes and such. When I saw this as one of the new features I was both excited and bummed (because my CS5 doesn't have it! And I usually don't upgrade an application unless I'm jumping up a couple versions.). Plus, I want to see the cool things you guys might come up with if you do use it.Īs some may already know, Photoshop CS6 has a cool new Oil Painting filter built into it.
